I want to do the same around Pesah, but go down in the cable car and then do Ein Gedi: David or Arugot, depends how tired will we be by then.

I do not know how to actually get down to the akveduct, but the water to Jerusalem was supplied from the maayan haBiar in Efrat via BeitLehem, where it was pooled in 3 huge brehot Shlomo that I was lucky to see before the "piece process" began and then to armon ha naziv and to the Temple.

Park at the eastern parking lot (the one that has the panoramic view to the old city), and walk to the east, not to the arab village down below, rather towards the house of the naziv(some UN bla in the 90'es) and follow the paved path among green deshe. On the hill there, before the Matnas with the red cow, there is a nice mosaic with a well down to the akveduct. It's under the wooden pergola. Alternatively you may park by the Matnas (it's just down the same street as the above mentioned paring lot) and walk from there to the Tayelet. The mosaic illustrates the akveduct flow.
